The sixteen year old hurtled down the route, kicking up dirt along the dust pathway, eager to get to the next town, and his first gym badge. But further along, the grass started to get taller and denser, and even Nozomi knew that tall grass was where Pokémon lurked. And so he slowed down, and unclipped two Pokéballs from his belt. The first, he knew, was his Growlithe, Ruro. But the second was a mystery, a random ball he had found lying in the grass. He had known that he should return it or something, but there was not enough time to dawdle, and who could resist just... taking it? It was another step up the ladder, another asset in completing this journey, and going home. So he had just scooped it up, and continued on his way. That didn't make him a criminal, did it? It didn't belong to anyone, and if it did, it was their own fault for losing it.
With his guilty concience settled, Nozomi decided to release his two Pokémon. Sheepishly, he hurled the two bi-coloured balls into the air, where they exploded in a flash of light, making the trainer flinch and sheild his eyes. When he looked again, two Pokémon were standing on the ground, as expected. The first was a reddish orange colour, and had black markings. The more furry bits were a creamy colour, and it had a big poofy tail. This was quite obviously his Growlithe. Nozomi smiled at him, prompting a freindly bark.
The second was considerably smaller, but it seemed to have an air about it, that made it look... vibrant. It looked like a small, yellow rodent, and it had big black rimmed ears, and a large black tail, and looked very cute. It stood on it's tiptoes and put its hands behind it's back cutely, so Nozomi bent down and playfully stroked it. At this, an enourmous electrical shock rippled down his body, making his hair stand up erratically, and a whiff of smoke fill the air. Nozomi was shocked, but in the end he just laughed. So that's why it looked, vibrant. Electrical energy...
"Uh, right." He began, not suring what to say to some Pokémon. Could they understand him? "I need to become a master, and so we need to do some battles. If we beat the Pokémon elite, then we'll be able to go home to my old life. Though I don't know if i'll still want to after this..." He knew he was rambling, and he was a bit confused himself, so he just smiled and lovingly stroked Ruro's head. "Okay? Then lets go!" And with that he took off at a run towards the grass, shortly followed by a squealing Pichu, and Ruro, who raced ahead of him, and plunged into the grass yapping. Seconds later, Nozomi waded into the grass also, laughing. Pichu seemed scared, and so jumped up onto the back of his shirt, clambering up until he was sitting on her trainers backpack, facing backwards.

Soon, you could see a small group of Sentret bobbing up and down in the grass. <Ring-around-a rosie,> they were singing happily. Noticably, they all had large tails, and were standing on them to see on top of the grass. They were extra-happy today, especially since it was one of them's birthday. A very good day. <Wow.> A Sentret said as it looked at the Pichu, Growlithe and trainer. It started whispering in another of the Sentret's ear. Soon they were all giggling and pointing at you. <Captured...> they whispered amongst themselves. <So that's what captured Pokemon look like...> x5 appeared!

When Nozomi spotted the Sentret, he crouched down, for his first thought was to use a stealth tactic, maybe jumping them with Ruro, or dazzling them with Momoko's electricity or something. But before he had time to decide, they'd seen him. He wasn't exactly extremely inconspicuous, but they were at least a head shorter than the grass, so he wasn't sure how they had spotted him. Ruro was at his side, also laying low. And now, to make it worse, they were laughing at him!
A bead of sweat trickled down the boys face, falling and landing soundlessly on the floor. It was a warm day, and Nozomi fanned himself with his hand, and tugged at his collar, attempting to cool himself down. But it was futile. It was too warm. He wished he'd brought some water or something, but back where he came from it was usally cold. Naivély, he'd assumed this place would be the same. Angrily, Nozomi thought. And thought. And thought.
But the sun was getting to him, and it was even warmer within the grass. Ruro must be boiling, with all that fur, but being a fire type he was probably used to it. Forgetting all sense, Nozomi angrily pointed forwards. "Just go for it!" He hissed.
Joyfully, Ruro set off towards the Sentret, and Momoko only managed to keep up with him by jumping onto her trainers head and propelling herself off, landing neatly on the Growlithes back. The duo burst into the clearing of flattened grass that the Sentret had made, and Pichu jumped off, sparks brimming in her ears, strangely. The two looked strangely formidable, if not comical.
Suddenly, Ruro lunged forward at the nearest of the five, his jaws wide in readiness for a savage bite attack. Momoko meanwhile, wasn't moving at all. Sparks began to flow from her every pore, jumping maniacly off her body, to manifest in a stronger electric attack, a thunderbolt. She directed it at the Sentret furthest from her, the electric attack jolting forward with viscious speed.
So it begins. Nozomi thought, proudly. His first battle, the first of many if he wanted to win the championship. He seemed to have some pretty good Pokémon, and maybe with a little encouragement, they could become even stronger. Maybe even this battle could give them some levels. There was only one way to find out...

<Hehehe!> the Sentret said, looking at the two comical Pokemon. However, they soon became serious as three were hit by the Thundershock and one hit by Bite. <Get off... of me!> the bitten Sentret said, shaking his tail quite a bit.
The other four Sentret, including one that had been paralyzed, leaped forward. Except the paralyzed one couldn't really move. The other ones grabbed the Growlithe, and began hauling him off. Seeing that two Sentret was enough on one Growlithe, or, thinking so, the one other Sentret decided to use a Tackle attack on the small mouse-sized, yet formidable Pokemon.
